The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued a warning to consumers not to eat certain brands of chili sauce because of possible botulism contamination.

The FDA said consumers should not eat 10-oz cans of Castleberry Food Co.’s Hot Dog Chili Sauce, Austex Hot Dog Chili Sauce and Kroger Hot Dog Chili Sauce, bearing “best by” dates from 30 April, 2009 to 22 May, 2009.
The FDA said that consumers who have any of these products or any foods made with these products should throw them away immediately.
Two children in Texas and an Indiana couple who ate the products became seriously ill and had to be hospitalised, the FDA revealed.
Castleberry has informed the FDA that it is voluntarily recalling all of the potentially contaminated products and is cooperating with official investigations into the cause of the contamination.
