The soup, with code date ‘19May10 NV VN-3’ may have been mislabelled, and could contain allergens not listed on the ingredient label, specifically egg, milk, and soy, the US food producer said on Friday (31 October).

There have been no reports of allergic reactions or illnesses associated with the product but General Mills said the possibility of unlabelled allergens made it a “class one” recall.

This voluntary recall, which includes only 19oz cans of the soup, was the result of a production error, which meant in a number of cases of Progresso Light Vegetable and Noodle soup was mislabelled as Progresso Hearty Tomato soup.

As a result of the General Mills recall, US retailers Stop & Shop and Giant Food said over the weekend that they had removed the product from their shelves.
