US supermarket retailer Giant Eagle has made two changes to its senior management team.

Laura Shapira Karet has been named as CEO of the company. Karet, 42, is replacing her father David Shapira who will assume the role of executive chairman of the board. Karet most recently served as senior executive vice president and chief strategy officer for the company.

Prior to joining the company, she held marketing executive positions at Sara Lee from 1997 to 2000. She has also worked for Procter & Gamble and coffee maker Folgers.

John Lucot has been appointed as president and COO. Lucot, 54, has previously held executive positions in distribution, retail development, real estate and operations.

Karet and Lucot will take up their new roles in January.
