US private-equity firm The Carlyle Group today (7 June) announced that it had invested in Indian dairy business Tirumala Milk Products.

Carlyle said Tirumala was “well placed to capture growth opportunities in a robust sector fueled by growing income and demand for quality products”.

Tirumala, set up in 1998 and based in the south of the country, makes a range of dairy products, including pasteurised milk, yoghurt and butter.

The deal with Tirumala is part of four investments Carlyle has made in Asia across the engineering, automotive and banking sectors.

The private-equity firm did not disclose how much it has spent on Tirumala but, across the four businesses, it has invested over US$140m.
