According to the US Department of Agriculture, some JBS beef may be linked to an outbreak of E. coli 0157:H7.

JBS had recalled 41,280 pounds of whole muscle beef produced at the group’s facility in Greeley, Colorado on 21 April.

The voluntary recall was yesterday (28 June) expanded to include 380,000 pounds of other products produced on 21 April.

JBS said that it would be contacting each of its customers individually to alert them to the recall.

However, JBS was quick to defend the food safety procedures it follows.

“It is important for customers to note that the recalled product from the date in question was sold as whole muscle cuts, not as ground beef. The ground beef that might have been associated with illness was produced by other companies who often do not use the antimicrobial intervention steps we employ at our facility to reduce the risk of the beef products,” JBS spokesperson Chandler Keys said.

“Nevertheless, we have agreed to expand our recall of whole muscle out of an abundance of caution for consumers,” he added.
