US snack manufacturer J&J Snack Foods has seen its quarterly earnings more than double on the back of an 8% rise in sales.

The New Jersey-based firm yesterday (22 January) booked net earnings of US$4.3m for the three months to 27 December – up from $1.9m a year ago.


Operating income jumped from $2.3m to $6.8m, the company said.


Sales, meanwhile, rose 8% to $141.1m.


President and CEO Gerald Shreiber said the company was “gratified” by its performance during the quarter.

“Improved results from each of our major business groups, foodservice, retail supermarkets and frozen beverages, contributed to the increased earnings in the period,” Shreiber said.


J&J makes a range of pretzels, biscuits and fruit bars, as well as making frozen beverages under Coca-Cola Co.’s Minute Maid brand under licence.
