The Ireland-based food giant is moving its plant in Fremont, Nebraska, to a new site in Illinois, which the company described as “small operations”.

It is believed operations at the Fremont site will cease in the autumn and be transferred to a new facility in Gridley, Illinois.

Frank Hayes, a spokesperson for Kerry, said: “If you’re a company with lots of small acquisitions, then sometimes it makes more sense to consolidate them for efficiency and from a logistics and supply chain point of view, so that’s what Kerry has done.”

Workers were reportedly told of the closure two weeks ago.
