Kettle Brand Fully Loaded Baked Potato hits the stores this month and includes flavours of sour cream, green onion and cheddar cheese, the company said today (6 January).

The variant was developed out of a competition asking consumers to make custom flavours.

“We received thousands of submissions in the Create-a-Chip Challenge and the theme that stood out across the board this year was comfort food,” said Carolyn Richards, Kettle Foods chief flavour architect. “In the end, I couldn’t resist making the ultimate comfort food flavour: Fully Loaded Baked Potato.”

Kettle Brand Fully Loaded Baked Potato chips will be available in supermarkets and natural food stores nationwide and online at www.buykettlechips.com in 2oz, 5oz and 9oz bags for US$1.19 – $3.99.

Last month, it was reported that Kettle owner Lion Capital is preparing to sell the business for around US$700m.

Citing a source “familiar with the matter”, Reuters said that the private equity fund has hired investment bank Rothschild to handle the transaction.

The Wall Street Journal reported that PepsiCo’s Frito-Lay and Snyder’s of Hanover were among the potential bidders for the upmarket chip maker.

Lion has declined to comment on the reports.
