The Ohio-based retail group Kroger has announced that it has elected Ronald Sargent to its board of directors.
Sargent is chairman and CEO of the stationery group Staples, but prior to joining Staples in 1989, he had spent 10 years with Kroger. Sargent is also a director of Aramark Corp., Mattel. and The Yankee Candle Company.
Under the current arrangement, Sargent will serve on the board until June 2007, when he will stand for election by the shareholders. Sargent’s election brings the total number of members on the Kroger board to 15.
