The charity Lutheran World Relief announced that it has become an investing partner in Divine Chocolate, the US affiliate of the fair-trade chocolate supplier UK-based Divine.
“This is an exciting day for us,” said LWR acting president Jeff Whisenant. “After supporting and advocating for Fair Trade for more than a decade, LWR is ‘putting our money where our mouth is,’ and making a big step forward in our commitment to a model of trade that compensates farmers fairly and empowers them to improve their lives.”
The Divine brand, produced by a Ghanaian farmers’ cooperative, is a leading fairtrade chocolate brand in the UK and recently announced that it was to launch in the US.
Lutheran World Relief, a non-profit organisation which is a ministry of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), has been involved in the Fair Trade movement since the launch of the LWR Coffee Project in 1996.
