US meat products manufacturer Monogram Food Solutions has acquired ready-to-eat bacon firm Shelby County Cookers for an undisclosed sum from food group Westin Inc.

The deal, struck for an undisclosed sum, will see Westin buy shares in Monogram.

Monogram said the acquisition will provide it with access to the ready-to-eat bacon category under its newly-created operating unit, Monogram Prepared Meats.

Shelby produces bacon jerky, which has national distribution under four brands: Bass Pro Uncle Buck’s, Johnsonville, Trails Best and Wild Bill’s.

Scott Carlson, Westin CEO, said that Shelby is a fast-growing business that is expected to accelerate growth thanks to the capital investment and larger sales force that it will find at Monogram.

For these reasons, Westin has become a “significant shareholder” in Monogram, Carlson added.
