The formal owner of National Beef Packing Co., one of the largest beef businesses in the US, has announced plans for an IPO.

National Beef Inc., which has been established to become the “managing member” of National Beef Packing Co., said it plans to apply to list its shares on the New York stock exchange under the symbol NBP.

An application for the listing, which will be managed by BofA Merrill Lynch and Credit Suisse, has been lodged with the SEC.

National Beef Packing Co. sells fresh and frozen beef, case ready beef and beef by-products in the US and overseas.

Earlier this year, Brazilian beef giant JBS abandoned plans for a US$560m takeover of National Beef Packing Co. after the US Department of Justice filed a lawsuit to block the deal on competition grounds.
