Nestle is to relocate its Hot Pockets and Lean Pockets frozen snacks businesses in the US, resulting in a number of job losses.

The food and beverage giant said the business team for the frozen sandwich and snacks units will move from Englewood, Colorado to its headquarters in Solon, Ohio. The brands were acquired by Nestle from Chef America in 2002.

As a result of the move, Nestle said “some positions will be eliminated”. The company did not detail how many would be affected.

“We’ve encouraged the Englewood team to travel to Cleveland and explore the housing and recreational opportunities in the region before making their decisions,” Nestle Prepared Foods CEO Frank Higgins. “We believe the opportunities for shared learning and continued progress – both for our employees and our business – are greater with all our teams working together.”

A spokesperson for Nestle told just-food that employees had been invited to visit the Ohio HQ this month as they weigh up whether to move over 1,350 miles from Englewood.

“Nearly two-thirds of the team in Denver has been invited to make the move to Ohio along with the business. We’ve invited our colleagues to visit this month as they prepare to make their decisions. We’re hopeful that many of the team will choose to stay with Nestle and make the move,” the spokesperson said.
