Egg producers National Pasteurized Eggs (NPE) said it has significantly increased production following a boom in requests from US and international retail and food service operators.

The company, producers of Davidson’s Pasteurized Shell Eggs, claim it is in part a result of the bird flu prevention measures NPE takes, terming its eggs a “safe choice”.

Davidson’s Pasteurized Shell Eggs undergo a patented pasteurised process to destroy harmful bacteria and viruses, which would include bird flu, making it safe for all egg preparations, whether cooked or raw.

NPE president Greg West said: “Many restaurants have added this product as part of their risk management plan toward protecting against salmonella and now against bird flu.”

The company also said that in the last 30 days it has fielded requests for information from food industry leaders in Japan, Turkey, Greece, Europe and South America.
