Setton International Foods has again expanded its recall of pistachio products processed at its California affiliate Setton Pistachio of Terra Bella.

The New York-based firm said yesterday (14 April) that only products with the number eight as the fourth digit of the FMO#, which shipped from 10 September last year to 25 March this year, are affected by the expanded recall.


“To date, there have been no confirmed cases of salmonellosis in connection with Setton International’s products,” the company said.


Setton International Foods buys pistachios from the Setton Pistachio of Terra Bella site in California that has been linked to possible salmonella contamination and to the recall of scores of products across the US.


Last week, the US Food and Drug Administration said an inspection had indicated salmonella was present in “critical areas” of the facility.

The FDA said the investigation had found the “potential for cross-contamination between raw and roasted peanuts”.


A number of US food manufacturers and retailers have recalled products since salmonella contamination was detected in pistachios from the Setton Pistachio of Terra Bella site in California.


Kraft Foods uncovered the salmonella contamination when it tested products containing pistachios from the site and recalled Planters and Back to Nature lines containing pistachio nuts.


Elsewhere, Pepsi-Co’s Frito-Lay, nut maker John B. Sanfilippo and Son and retailers Kroger and Publix Super Markets have been among the companies to recall products.
