The four stores will include two in the Portland area, as well as outlets in Tacoma and Pasco, Washington State. Supervalu said the openings mark the first phase of an expansion programme for the Save-A-Lot chain, which already trades from 1,100 stores across 42 states, in the Pacific Northwest.
The company is also to open a new distribution centre in Portland to support the Save-A-Lot chain in the region.
“We are excited to introduce the Save-A-Lot concept to the Pacific Northwest,” said Supervalu’s president and CEO Mike Jackson. “The Pacific Northwest offers an excellent growth opportunity for our limited assortment grocery format.”
