PepsiCo has promoted company veteran Sanjeev Chadha to chief of its operations in Asia, the Middle East and Africa.

Chadha, who has spent 23 years working for PepsiCo across the region, succeeds Saad Abdul-Latif, who died last month.

The Lay’s and Pepsi cola maker said Chadha had worked in each of its “key markets” In the region and said he had been “instrumental” in the company’s “strong growth” locally.

“His leadership, experience and deep knowledge of the business, the region and its people will help to continue to drive success in AMEA,” PepsiCo chairman and CEO Indra Nooyi said.

In the second quarter of 2013, PepsiCo saw its revenue jump 14% in AMEA on an organic basis, helped by higher beverage and snacks volumes. Reported net sales grew 6%. Core operating profit in the region was up 25%.

In 2012, organic sales grew 10% as snacks sales by volume climbed at a double-digit rate. Reported revenues were down 10% as PepsiCo refranchised its bottling operations in China, a move that also hit the company’s regional operating profit.
