California-based pasta and meat producer Provena Foods moved into profit in the first quarter of 2006, posting net earnings of US$0.148m, against a net loss of $0.162m in the first quarter of 2005.
 
Net sales rose by 2% in the first quarter to $15.45m. The company said that its meat and pasta divisions had both contributed to the increase in sales and earnings.
 
Operating profits reached $0.246m, compared with a net operating loss in the first quarter of 2005 of $0.136m.
