US egg firm Cal-Maine Foods has seen quarterly profits more than triple thanks to record egg prices.

The company today (31 March) posted operating income of US$85.7m for its third quarter to 1 March. Revenue reached $278m, up from $175.2m a year earlier.
Chairman and CEO Fred Adams said: “Demand was strong for eggs in both the retail and food service segments and demand was also good for shell eggs used to produce liquid, frozen, and dried egg products. Even with the higher prices, eggs still represent a good value to the consumer compared with other foods.”
