Family-owned French cheese group Rians has acquired California-based Marin French Cheese Co. for an undisclosed sum, the groups announced yesterday (26 April).

The move further expands Rians’ US presence and builds on its 2006 acquisition of neighbouring California cheese group Laura Chenel’s Chèvre.

Laura Chenel’s Chèvre MD Marie Lesoudier will take on responsibility for overseeing all activities at Marin, the company said.

“While we have created a tremendous partnership, each company’s operations will remain separate,” says Lesoudier. “Both companies will share their expertise in production, marketing and distribution in order to provide consumers the finest hand-made artisan cheeses from Northern California.”

The deal, which remains subject to closing conditions, is expected to be completed next month.
