Save-A-Lot president and CEO Bill Shaner said the venture was a “new business model for the company” and that it will combine Ortega’s “local insights with the power of the Save-A-Lot network of stores and exclusive label expertise”.
Ortega has been serving the Hispanic community in Texas for 24 years, and currently owns 15 Alhorro Supermarkets and almost 100 La Michoacana Meat Markets.
The stores began operating under the new co-branded name, El Ahorro Save-A-Lot, at the end of May. Save-A-Lot is owned by US retail giant Supervalu Inc.
