Ohio-based Smith Dairy Products has launched a lower-fat, lower-calorie version of its Ruggles ice cream brand.

Ruggles Churned Premium Light Ice Cream will contain 50% less fat and one third fewer calories than the core Ruggles line.

The new line will be available in grocery stores throughout the Smith Dairy sales region, packaged in 1.75-quart containers.

“Today’s savvy consumers are health-conscious and interested in eating light, but they still want their desserts and treats,” said Penny Baker, director of marketing at Smith Dairy. “Our new Ruggles Churned line gives them the best of both worlds.”

The launch is to be supported by money-off coupons in Sunday newspaper advertising inserts during April and May, introductory price promotions, and radio advertising.
