The company, which owns 164 stores in southern California, said consolidated sales rose 4.7% to US$3.7bn.

An extra week boosted Stater Bros’ results for fiscal 2007; stripping out that week, revenue was 2.9%.

Chairman, president and CEO Jack Brown said the company was “pleased” with the figures. Stater Bros. is part-way through building a distribution centre, a project that will maintain the company’s profile in California, Brown said.

“This new center will provide us with the ability to continue our commitment to being the low price leader,” Brown added.
