Stater Bros reported an increase in second-quarter net income despite a fall in first-half profits.
The US grocery retailer reported US$8.8m net income for the quarter ended 27 March, against $6m in the same period of the previous year.

However, first-half net income fell to $10m against $12.7m in the same period of the previous year.
Excluding the impact of the sale of the group’s dairy division in the first half of 2010, net income would have been up $2.9m for the half.
Second-quarter sales were up 3.1% to $913m, while first-half sales reached $1.81bn against $1.15bn in the same quarter of the previous year.
