Sales for the thirteen weeks ended 24 December 2006 rose by 4.3% to US$904.1m compared to $867m for the thirteen weeks ended 25 December 2005.


The company posted net income for the quarter of $9.9m compared to $3.3m for the comparable period of last year.

Brown, chairman, president and chief executive office said; “The first quarter results benefited from improved gross margins and decreased operating expenses, as a percentage of sales, in the first quarter of fiscal 2007 compared to the first quarter of fiscal 2006. We remain committed to being the low price leader while providing a friendly and satisfying shopping experience to our ‘Valued Customers’ on each and every one of their visits to our supermarkets.”
