US retailer Stop & Shop is recalling four types of prepared chicken due to potential contamination with Listeria monocytogenes.
The affected products were sold at the chain’s deli counters, both in bulk and prepackaged in various weights and includes chicken cutlets, marsala, grilled lemon chicken and teriyaki chicken sold on or after 26 February.
The retailer has removed all recalled products from sale and received no reports of illnesses from the consumption of the products.
A spokesperson for Stop & Shop, said: “Customers who purchased this product should dispose of it immediately and return to any Stop & Shop store for a full refund. Customers who consumed this product are advised to consult their healthcare provider.
Listeria monocytogenes is a bacteria that can cause flu-like symptoms, and athough healthy people rarely contract listeriosis, it can be very serious for those who are pregnant or those with weakened immune systems.
