A private equity firm has snapped up US strawberry supplier Sunrise Growers-Frozsun Foods.

Sun Capital Partners, which includes Canada’s CanGro Foods among its investments, said it was “delighted” to add Sunrise to its portfolio.

“The management team of Sunrise has done an excellent job in establishing a customer-focused business,” said Sun Capital principal Matthew Garff. “Their growth initiatives and innovative ideas are developed with a keen eye toward providing solutions to its customers. This focus is a recipe for continued growth and success.”

Sunrise, which sells under its own brands and provides private-label products for US retailers, said the deal would improve the business.

“This partnership will further enable us to execute our strategic initiatives in the areas of product innovation, fruit sourcing, operating efficiencies, and food safety, moving Sunrise towards its goal of driving profitable growth for our loyal customer base,” president and CEO Edward Haft added.
