US-based natural and organic food group SunOpta has bought a soymilk plant in the state of New York from ProSoya Corp.

SunOpta said the acquisition – secured for an undisclosed sum – would “significantly” improve its ability to meet demand in eastern Canada and the north-east of the US.
Allan Routh, president of the SunOpta grains and foods group, said: “This geographic expansion of soy manufacturing is another strategic step to ensure that we will maintain adequate supply capabilities, positioned to meet the increasing demands of our soy customers and enable continued growth of their businesses.”
