US retailer Supervalu Inc has appointed Bill Parker as interim president of its Farm Fresh food and pharmacy banner.

Parker will take the helm of the 43-store division on 15 September, replacing Gaelo de la Fuente who is leaving the company to “pursue other interests”.

Parker has been with Farm Fresh for 14 years, holding director, vice president and senior vice president roles in operations and merchandising during that time. Prior to that, he worked at the Albertsons Florida division as a district sales manager and store director for 21 years.

“We are fortunate to have someone with Bill’s extensive operation and merchandising experience that will be able to keep the business moving forward as we look to identify a replacement at Farm Fresh,” said Kevin Holt, president of Supervalu’s retail arm.

Last week, the retailer announced the closure of around 60 stores. Supervalu, which has a network of about 4,400 outlets across the US, said it would shut the “under-performing or non-strategic stores” in its current financial year, which runs until late February.

Last month, Supervalu announced a number of executive leadership changes as new CEO Wayne Sales bids to turn around the US retailer.
