Van Helden was already SVP and president, Retail West. As such, he is responsible for the company’s retail operations in Southern California, Nevada and Intermountain West.


“Pete has been and will continue to be instrumental in sustaining Supervalu’s transformation into a retail powerhouse,” said chairman and CEO Jeff Noddle. “Pete’s promotion signifies our commitment to our western operations.”


Van Helden joined Supervalu last year when the company acquired Albertsons. In a 27-year career with Albertsons, he had held a number of management positions, most recently serving as president and chief executive officer of the retailer’s California Food Division.
