US grocery operator Supervalu Inc has appointed interim CFO Sherry Smith as executive vice president, chief financial officer.
Smith has worked for the retailer for nearly 25 years. She will assume the new role immediately and report to CEO and president Craig Herkert.

She has held a number of positions with the retailer, including vice president, corporate controller and treasurer.

Her appointment today reflects the confidence I have in her ability to serve in this important senior management position,” said Herkert. “I am grateful for the work that Sherry performed as our interim CFO. Her guidance and leadership during the past several months made it increasingly clear to the executive search committee and me that she is the best candidate to lead our finance efforts going forward.”
Former CFO Pamela Knous left the business in July to pursue other career interests.
