Supervalu Inc has sued rival Wal-Mart for selling too many groceries in its University Avenue store.
Supervalu has claimed the St Paul-based store is violating its lease by selling more groceries than allowed at the shopping centre it shares with a Cub Foods store.

It is understood Wal-Mart’s lease limits food sales at the store to 7,500 sq ft and 10% of shelf space. In the suit filed in Ramsey County District Court, Supervalu said Wal-Mart may be over the 10% mark.
According to The Wall Street Journal, Supervalu is among several large grocery retailers that have funded secretive oppositions to new Wal-Mart stores.
