US grocery retailer Supervalu Inc is to cut the number of staff in its merchandising department.

The company said yesterday (14 September) that it had decided to shake up its “enterprise merchandising” division.

The restructuring will see Supervalu create 50 jobs but axe 74 positions. “This decision was made only after careful evaluation. By better aligning our resources with our business plans and thoughtfully allocating those resources across our enterprise merchandising department, we can proceed more efficiently and effectively within the current operating environment,” the company said.
