T. Marzetti has recalled a number of its dips in the US due to possible salmonella contamination.

The US food maker, the speciality foods unit of US group Lancaster Colony, has pulled certain lines of Veggie Dips, Oak Lake Chip Dips and Great Value Chip Dips due to an ingredient that could be contaminated with salmonella.

Products subject to the recall were distributed nationwide and include T. Marzetti Southwest Ranch Veggie Dip, 15.5oz (UPC 70200 52004) with best-by dates: APR2010F, APR2810F, MAY1610F, MAY3110F, JUN0610F, JUN1410F, JUN1910F.

Thirteen-ounce T. Marzetti Fat Free Southwest Ranch Veggie Dip (UPC 70200 52033) with best-by dates of MAY1610F, MAY3010F, JUN0810F, JUN1210F and JUN2510F have also been recalled.

The company has also pulled 15oz Marzetti Spinach Veggie Dip lines (UPC 70200 52059) with best-by dates of APR1910F, MAY0910F, JUN0710F.

So far, there have been no reports of illnesses associated with the products, which were distributed in Canada and Laredo, Texas.

Elsewhere, a lawsuit was filed last week on behalf of the family of a San Leandro woman who died from a salmonella infection contracted from tainted pepper.

The lawsuit was filed against U.F Union International Food, which produced the spices, as well as against the companies that sold and distributed the products.

The Seattle-based food safety law firm Marler Clark filed the suit in the Superior Court for the State of California, County of Alameda.
