There have been 552 reports of sickness across 32 states linked to the salmonella outbreak in tomatoes, according to the US Centres for Disease Control and Prevention.
Some 53 people have been hospitalized, CDC officials said. No deaths have been blamed on the outbreak.
In Texas, a cluster of cases have been reported to CDC, with 265 cases found in that state alone.

The US Food and Drug Administration has traced tomatoes contaminated with salmonella to a number of farms in Florida and Mexico, while investigations are continuing in Texas.
The number of people who contract salmonella could continue to rise as the outbreak has not yet been contained, the FDA indicated.
In an attempt to contain the outbreak, the food safety watchdog has now dispatched teams of experts to conduct farm and supply chain inspections in Florida and Mexico.
The FDA was unavailable for further comment as just-food went to press.
