Toler joins a business looking to push on after private-equity groups Metropoulos & Co. and Apollo Global Management bought the snack cake business of the old Hostess Brands last year.

Hostess chairman Dean Metropoulos said Toler would “bring his talents and energy to the next phase of the company’s growth”.

“Hostess Brands has become a dynamic and highly successful business over the past year and our unique and widely recognized brands, including Twinkies, HoHos, CupCakes and Ding Dongs, have reconnected with consumers,” Metropoulos said. “As we look forward to the company’s exciting future, it is important to continue to strengthen the organisation and strive to reach new levels of growth through further market expansion, new products and acquisitions.”

According to Toler’s LinkedIn page, his most recent role was as senior advisor to another private-equity firm, Oaktree Capital Management.

He was CEO of convenience foods supplier AdvancePierre Foods from 2008 to 2013. Before that role, he was president of Pinnacle Foods for five years.
