Reports from financial newspaper Valor Economico have suggested Tyson Foods is to buy the poultry operation in March for a sum of BRL130m (US$74.4m).
However, a spokesperson for Tyson Foods said today (14 February): “The company has expressed an interest in expanding operations overseas but, at this moment in time, we have not made plans to buy any operation.”
Earlier this month, the meat giant announced plans to expand its poultry business in China through a joint venture with Jiangsu Jinghai Poultry to raise and process chicken under the Tyson brand.
At home, some 1,800 jobs at Tyson’s Emporia plant in Kansas are under threat as the company plans to stop slaughtering beef at the site.
