Most recently, Solheim completed a rejuvenation plan for Unilever’s North American ice cream division, focusing on “quality” and new product development, the company said.

Last year, Unilever shook up its ice cream manufacturing in the US, with the closure of sites in Maryland and Massachusetts and expansion at a facility in Tennessee.

Unilever insisted that Solheim will play a critical role in leading Ben & Jerry’s through the “next phase of growth”.

Solheim succeeds Walt Freese. His appointment is effective immediately.
