WhiteWave Foods, a division of US dairy giant Dean Foods, has launched a line of natural, low-fat yogurts in the US.

The company said yesterday (29 May) that Rachel’s Wickedly Delicious, a range of ten yogurts would appeal to “health-savvy consumers”.


The yogurts contain probiotics, calcium, vitamins A and D, life’sDHA Omega-3 DHA and NutraFlora, WhiteWave Foods said.


The company has divided the range into two lines, dubbed “essence” and “exotic”. Carolina Fryer, Rachel’s brand manager, said: “Rachel’s offers health-minded consumers a way to treat themselves while also nurturing their bodies.”


The range will go on sale from next month in natural food stores in the US.

Earlier this month, Dean Foods said WhiteWave Foods was performing strongly in the face of growing competition


However, the company warned that WhiteWave Foods is likely to see growing price competition as the industry faces an excess supply of organic milk.


Dean Foods also lowered its full-year earnings guidance for 2007 on the back of the excess supply in the organic dairy market and an expected rise in commodity costs.
