“Good nutrition, like a diet rich in nutrient-dense super foods such as berries, leafy greens, nuts, legumes, and omega-3 fish, is the cornerstone of healthy ageing,” said Tricia DiPersio, PhD, RD, food safety specialist and corporate dietitian for Wild Oats Markets.

With consumption of fresh organic foods and a nutritious diet as its core tenet, the programme aims to educate consumers about the benefits of healthy super foods, offering a variety of recipes that are high in antioxidants, fibre and omega-3 fatty acids, Wild Oats said.

For example, foods such as blueberries, red kidney beans and pecans are highlighted for their rich antioxidant properties, serving as ‘housekeepers’ in the body. For healthy joints, a key concern for older people, foods high in bioflavonoids, such as citrus fruits and leafy greens, help slow the inflammation process, support collagen production and help prevent cell damage that speeds ageing.

Meanwhile, healthy and youthful skin can be maintained by eating a diet rich in vitamin A, fruits and vegetables and Omega-3 fish.
