US firm Windsor Foods has confirmed plans to shut its pasta production plant in Pennsylvania, in a move that will result in 160 jobs being lost.
A spokesperson for the company said the decision was made in light of repeated flooding at the Bloomsburg site, which resulted in production losses and flood damage.

“In recent years, Windsor Foods has been forced to suspend the pasta production operations at its Bloomsburg plant due to ten flood and near-flood events which resulted in millions of dollars in damage to our facilities and in lost production,” the spokesperson stressed. “This necessary business decision will also eliminate the potential for future, repeated interruptions in our production network due to the flooding uncertainties at Bloomsburg.”
The company intends to cease production at Bloomsbury in “late February or early March” next year. Worker consultation on severance, benefits and “outplacement” with the 160 staff currently at the facility will take place in the coming weeks, the spokesperson added.
The closure is part of a move to “increase our pasta production capabilities”, Windsor said. The company is “streamlining” its manufacturing network and expanding its plant in Toluca in Illinois, the spokesperson revealed.
“These new production capabilities will help strengthen Windsor’s competitiveness and market leadership, and will allow us to continue to provide high-quality food products to our customers nationwide.”
