Chewing gum manufacturer Wrigley Jr Co has said it will invest US$48m in upgrading its largest production facility.

The factory, in Hall County, Georgia, will expand its production following the acquisition by Wrigley of some of Kraft Foods’ confectionary business. The plant will continue to manufacture Eclipse, Doublemint, Extra and other gums. Added to these will be the production of Altoids and Orbits.

“There’s going to be a significant increase in production,” company spokesman Christopher Perille told the Atlanta Journal.

The investment will also see the creation of 200 jobs.
