Dallas-based convenience store giant 7-Eleven, Inc has reported a 4.3% increase in its US same-store merchandise sales for January 2002, on top of 2.5% for January 2001.

Total merchandise sales for January 2002 were US$533.9m, an increase of 5.6% over the January 2001 total of US$505.4m.
Gasoline sales for January 2002 were US$180.1m compared to US$224.7m in the prior year period. Sales decreased 19.8% due to a 34-cent per gallon decline in the average retail price of gasoline year- over-year. The average retail price per gallon was US$1.14 compared to US$1.48 in January 2001. While sales were lower, the average gallons of gasoline sold per store increased 0.3% in January 2002, compared to the January 2001 figure.
