Morey’s Seafood International is voluntarily recalling 1,169 pounds of Morey’s Smoked Chubs/Ciscoes that were shipped to eleven states, including Georgia. The product is marked with lot number “399” and a “Not To Be Sold or Consumed After” date of “5/25/02.”
“I doubt any of this product still remains on grocery store shelves,” said Commissioner Irvin, “but consumers should check to make sure they do not have any stored in their home freezer or refrigerator. If they do, they can return it to the place of purchase for a refund.”
Consumption of food contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes can cause listeriosis, an uncommon but potentially serious disease. The most common manifestation of listeriosis is meningitis. Listeriosis can also cause miscarriages and stillbirths, as well as serious and sometimes fatal infections to infants, the elderly and those with weakened immune systems.
