McKinless, formerly as senior director for supply chain management at computer firm Dell, will be responsible for creating a sourcing operation, while also developing new systems and processes to generate savings for the company, Albertsons said.
Dell is well known for tight control of its supply chain, enabling it to pressure suppliers to cut prices and then pass those savings onto customers, reported Reuters. Albertsons is currently struggling with fierce competition from discount retail giant Wal-Mart.
