Beleaguered US food manufacturer Archibald Candy said yesterday [Wednesday] that it had agreed to sell two brands to Alpine Confections for an undisclosed sum.

The Fannie May and Fannie Farmer brands will become flagship products of Utah-based Alpine, which already produces and licenses well-known brands of fine confectionery, including Maxfield’s, Mrs. Fields, Harry London, Hallmark Chocolatier, Dolce d’Or and Botticelli. It intends to make the acquired brands in its own production facilities.

It is possible that at some time in the future Alpine will reopen some of the 228 Fannie May and Fannie Farmer retail stores that Archibald is closing.
