Food for Life Baking, a US company which made its name with a range of breads, Ezekiel 4:9, based on a recipe contained in the Bible, has extended its product range with the launch of Genesis 1:29.

Food For Life’s breads are made not with flour but with organically grown grains that are sprouted in water, mashed and mixed into dough prior to baking The use of these ‘live’ grains releases the nutrients stored within them, explains Gary Torres, the company’s director, sales and marketing, and the resulting breads are richer in protein and vitamins than those baked from dry grains ground into flour.

The idea for Genesis 1:29 bread came from a verse in the Bible which reads: “Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat.” It contains 19 grains from around the world, which together combine to make a product that “provides a naturally good source of nutrition not found in ordinary breads” and has, according to the firm.

Torres told just-food.com at Natural Products Expo Europe that the company (www.food-for-life.com) was seeking distributors for its range, which also includes cereals, pastas, cakes and nutrition bars, but was experiencing resistance from customers as the limited shelf life of some of its products means that they need to be stored frozen.
