US fastfood giant Burger King has said comparable sales at company-owned restaurants in April rose 7.3% from the year-ago period, their highest year-on-year increase since November 1999.

Comparable sales at franchised stores rose 3.4%, the company said, revealing monthly sales comparisons for the first time since December 2002.

“While there is still much work to be done, we’re beginning to see results,” chief executive Brad Blum was quoted by Reuters as saying.

Blum said three of Burger King’s news products – TenderCrisp and Spicy TenderCrisp chicken sandwiches, Angus Steak burgers, and Fire-Grilled salads – have exceeded company forecasts, reported Reuters.
