As part of the agreement, expected to take effect 1 September, lecithin will be produced at Riceland’s Arkansas facility and marketed and distributed by Cargill, reported Dow Jones Commodities Service.

Lecithin, a refined liquid from soybean processing, is used in a variety of foods as a blending agent, dough stabiliser and egg substitute. It is also used in pharmaceuticals, dietary supplements and cosmetics.

Richard E Bell, president and chief executive of Riceland, a farmer-owned cooperative, said the alliance would allow Riceland to operate its lecithin manufacturing facilities at more efficient rates.
