Chocolate sales have risen sharply in north America following the attacks in the United States says John Rowsome, President of the Confectionery Manufacturers of Canada.

Speaking to the Toronto Globe and Mail he said that a recent boom could not just be explained by the traditional increase in north American demand during the Halloween period. Instead, he said the terror attacks and the region’s deepening recession were also causes.

“Candy sales are exceedingly buoyant. It’s a trend confectioners see every time the economy goes down or stress levels go up and it happens right across the continent,” he said.
